Night Light

Night Light was written for Mark Boseman for his book Mallets & Music: A Guide to Four Mallet Marimba. Conceived as an etude for double-lateral strokes as well as a short journey where the player finds light in darkness.

Program Notes

Stepping into the forest, it seems almost pitch black, but the further you walk, the more you notice silvery stars flickering through the leaves. At a clearing, you look up to floating, wispy clouds glowing in the light of the moon. The forest seems brighter than ever as you bound through the trees toward the river. The sparkling light of the night reflects off its shimmering surface. You rest on the bank as fireflies glow all around you.
