Program Notes

My student showed up for a lesson with a fractured left elbow and told me he wouldn’t be able to play for a few weeks. Since he still had one good elbow, I quickly wrote him an etude for one mallet with an audio accompaniment inspired by the sounds I grew up with in the 80s. The marimba doubles the synth on the audio track for most of the piece, but toward the end you’ll have a chance to make up your own solo. ONE can be played on any keyboard percussion instrument. Just move octaves around as necessary. You can also just play it with two mallets if you’d like. Or, try it in octaves!

The tempo may be a bit challenging. You should feel free to slow it down a little for practice and/or performance. To do this you can use an app like The Amazing Slow Downer or AnyTune.
